It's going to get leaked anyway, so if they release it, it keeps everyone satisfied enough to not go steal a copy. Plus, it lets them control the releases instead of leakers controlling it.

I read a Neogaf thread from XY's leak cycle and I remember Aromatisse, Slurpuff, Clawitzer and Dragalge being leaked by the guy who got the game a few days early too.

The third stage starter evolutions and Aegislash come to mind.
It feels like more was revealed because people got copies early and leaked the remaining pokemon before release.

Also X and Y were the first games to release worldwide at the same time. Before that the games would be out in Japan long before they came out in the rest of the world. So we had the whole dex to look at for months before the games were released for us to play.

We didn't even know what the final starter evos were until about a week before release some anon got a hold of a copy a week early. Then the "leaks" for all the new mons came out, but by then the game was out in under a week.

The split evo leak correctly predicted Rockruff's multiple evolutions
So we have two forms of Rockruff's evo that evolve when left "overnight" (in quotes because Sun and Moon take place 12 hours apart from each other, so overnight in Moon would technically be over-day) at the base of a mountain on each island
The starters' final evos also have different forms depending on when they evolve (day/night). Cool.

I was here for the Josh leaks and still have most of those threads saved, and even though a ton did get shown early and we had a tiny dex, there was a fair amount that wasn't found until people got into the games. Goomy and co, Hawlucha, Aegislash line, Noibat was a big one when it was finally found. Plus Zygarde, Mega Houndoom and some others if I remember correctly. SM are showing us so much already, I'm hoping we have a gigantic dex to compensate.

No, it actually proved itself to be debunked. The leak claims that there are more than 2 forms of the evolution, when there are only two, and it also gets the distinguishing factor (game version, not islands) wrong,
