No, they're not cloning--they're doing experiments of some sort, to try and figure out how to harness "synchro" like Ash-Greninja.

These three UBs are artificial "synchro" experiments that went awry somehow. Similar to team rocket cloning mewtwo from mew yeah.

It might be called something different and the particulars of the storyline are impossible to nail down right now with only what info we have, but it's clear that the Aether Foundation is screwing with "synchro." and that UBs are their failed experiments; each one derived from one of these family members or whatever. Like artificial Pokemon; or other dimensional things that they tried to artificially map a person onto to create or mimic "synchro"

This is what I see so far. we will likely team up with Guzma and the Aether Foundation to right these wrongs somehow in an end-game everyone-work-together scenario.

this is definitely the case op. these beings, whatever they are, seem to mimic people. or perhaps the characters that they resemble are in-fact not human themselves.

is it possible that lusamine came to the alola region from another dimension herself? perhaps her children don't even know what they really are.

regardless the ultra beasts seem to be personifications of the internal desires of the people whom they mimic: lusamine wants beauty and gladion wants influence. lillie's ultra beast seems to be hollow though. maybe she hasn't yet decided what she wants? maybe that is the crux of the plot.

lillie stands beteween her mother and her brother, each of them has chosen a side, and she is in between.

i wouldn't be surprised if we get a third ultra beast which resembles plumeria and faba. they are both very stylized characters. perhaps they will share ultra beast 3.

overall my theory is that these beasts aren't really creatures as much as they are reflections of the characters. perhaps a special pokemon is causing these shadows to appear.

And where does Type: Null fall into this? If Aether created (perhaps accidentally) these UBs through researching synchros, was Type: Null their first attempt at creating another Arceus? Synchros and God-pokes seem like two powerful fields of science that these guys would be interested in.
