I think it has to do with the basis these two form have. The day evolution is a more old school werewolf that in older mythologies it basically implied a human literally turning into a wolf. While the night version is based on the more modern look of werewolfs which are actually wolfmen or lycanthrope. That's probably why it looks like its wearing Rockroff on its back, it "shed" its day skin and its a fully fledged monster.

I applaud you, someone who knows some actual crytozoology. However, all werewolves are lycanthropes. Which literally translate to wolfman. You are correct in the fact originally werewolves were thought to be men (and women, "were" meaning man but referring to mankind.) Who turned into wolves as we know them in ancient roman and greek literature. It wasn't until Christianity became popular and characters like St. Alexander who was depicted as a dog-headed man (cured by god) and later on St. Patrick saving Ireland from not the snakes, but werewolves depicting them as wolves walking on their hind legs. Also the Loup Garou of France were depicted as bipedal, dancing under full moons.
