Honestly, I thought the two last episodes were better. This episode just barely was able to fit in all the stuff that was going on. And seeing Ash's pokemon getting OHKO by Mega Gyarados makes them look weak. (Of course they're not if a league champion, elite 4 and a runner up to league champion has to fight it to win but you get the idea) It really felt like they wanted to get rid of all of Ash's pokemon as fast as possible so Greninja could take the spotlight. And Clemont's battle against Xerosic was way too underwhelming after it had been hyped up so much in summaries. Good episode but not as good as the previous two imo.

I agree. I'm fine with, say, Steven's battle with an admin and grunts being skipped because it's an obvious curbstomp, but a battle that's supposedly between equals like Clemont vs Xerosic not getting screentime is a waste for both characters involved.

I personally feel the Lysandre battle has been bad since the previous episode, so I don't really care about it. Hopefully it gets better once the megalith is involved.

In terms of ignoring continuity, there's stuff like Ash not recognizing or seemingly not recognizing Pokémon and moves he's already seen. The most glaring case of each I can think of in XY would be the Mawile in the Korrina arc (to which Ash reacts with visible befuddlement and then dexes it) and his reaction to Talonflame using Brave Bird upon evolving, giving a surprised "I see!" after Clemont explains the move despite not only one of his previous regional birds having it, but him having witnessed it on another Talonflame earlier on in XY. Lack of clear continuity nods is nothing new so him not recognizing Steven whatsoever wouldn't be unexpected.

My point is that expecting Ash to clearly recognize Steven when they meet face to face would probably lead to disappointment.
