I know the "owls are birds" thing is just a meme but why aren't owls counted as birds? They have feather-like fur and they can fly. They have binocular vision but that is a bird of prey thing. To me I don't see why they aren't.

>Implying owls are birds

owls aren't birds because they're owls
>>28338110
nice meme
>>28338139
But why are they separate from birds? What makes them not birds?
according to wikipedia
Owls are birds from the order Strigiformes, which includes about two hundred species of mostly solitary and nocturnal birds of prey typified by an upright stance, a large, broad head, binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons, and feathers adapted for silent flight.
here's hoping that equates to something
>>28338166
because they're owls, dude
>>28338070
Aves are reptilian whereas strigiformes are not. Different evolutionary paths.
Owls are not birds.
>>28338070
>feather-like fur
dude what
owls look quite different from many other birds because of their incredibly dense plumage and giant eyes. they are cute and fuzzy while most birds appear rather spry and raptorial.
the reality is that owls are just regular birds beneath layers of feathers.

At least someone knows how owls work. I always find it funny and adorable how your finger literally sinks in them when you try to touch them because of all those feathers.
>>28338628
their eyes are insane

>i know it is a retarded meme

>>28338983
Great now would has lost all meaning to me and I'm not even sure it's a word anymore
It is a common mistake to label owls as birds, but this is merely half of the full classification. Owls are bird wyverns.

>implying owls are birds

But anon, Strigiformes are part of the clade Afroaves, which are part of the class Aves.

I guess that explains why Rowlet3 is so skinny.

Sometimes I can't tell if posts like these are bait or not.

It's images like this that justify the director of 'The Third Kind' using them as repressed placeholders for aliens
Imagine waking up at 2am and a 6ft one of these is standing at the end of your bed watching you

I'd rather have owls flying around than noisy children running around.
