What's the best gen for a beginning Pokemon fan? I really liked Go and wanna experience the actual games.
FRLG -> HGSS - > Emerald -> Platinum -> BW -> BW2 -> SM
kill urself my man
>>28307304
This
>>28307304
I actually agree.
>>28307267
Looks like 7th gen will be ok to start with
>>28307267
BW2 -> HGSS -> Platinum ->Emerald -> BW -> ORAS -> XY
Every game up until X/Y can be easily emulated on your PC or phone, and I suppose Gens 1, 3, and 5 would be the best places to start.
Also,
>First pokemon game was GoClearly underage
Gen 5/6 have a lot of QoL improvements over the older gens.
1-3 lack the special/physical split
You can't transfer mons from physical 1/2 carts upwards.
>>28307304
I agree with this.
FRLG will ease you in with just the pokemon you are already familiar with until the post-game, while also being rather up to date.
I may suggest doing HGSS after Emerald so you aren't going backwards in mechanics, though.
>>28307267
Heart Gold/Soul Silver seems like a good first game IMHO. It's pretty fun.
>>28307267
>experience the actual games
>the actual games
>actual games
Welcome Aboard, Friendo
might I suggest;
>Heartgold/SoulSilver
>Black/White
>Sun/Moon
In case you were looking to jump right in and not work your way up the whole list
>>28307304
You skipped XY
>>28307813
so did gamefreak
>>28307366
Or someone who never got into Pokémon but casually picked up go, liked it, and wants something more that the games could offer
>>28307304
First post best post
Fire Red/leaf green -> Heart gold/soul silver -> Black/white -> Black2/white2 -> XY
Fire red/leaf green will give you a great primer as to what to expect from the games, and if you are excited about it, you can then play Heart Gold/soul silver which shows the evolution to expect from the next generations; additionally they are remakes with all the fixes and changes that were made since then. I feel like you can just jump to Black/white gives you a great new in depth story and black 2/white 2 can continue on with the evolution of the characters, teams, and region, then play XY so you'll know what to expect from SunMoon when it comes to the 3d transition.
Like many said, games from the original red blue yellow to black 2 and white 2 can be emulated but with the road map I wrote, playing legitimately will allow you to transfer your teams to the next game and into the modern generation of Pokémon games. I feel that this order will keep your excitement high for much longer; you don't necessarily have to play all these games to enjoy the next Pokémon game but rather if you loved fire red/leaf green as it gives you what to expect from a pokemon game and want more, then go to heart gold/soul silver, and continue in that progression via the road map.
Hope you have fun!
>>28307304
This is correct
Just start with Sun/Moon.
>>28307304
I'd suggest gen 1 just to see how broken and silly it used to be. You can finish them really quick.
X/Y for sake of completion, theyre no worse than gen 3 games.
>>28307304
Kids these days.
I wouldn't wish Kanto remakes on my worst enemy.
Also Gamecube games are pretty ok.
>>28307267
Emerald, Platinum and HGSS are the only games worth playing.
>>28307304
Somewhat agreed but move Emerald and Platinum before HGSS. It makes more sense to play them in release order instead of going back and forth from different systems and mechanics.
>most people don't mention the comfiest games in the series
Even though I truly believe HGSS is superior, DPP is really worth playing if you like the series, and is a really good first game.
>>28311434
>Emerald
So as somebody who actually played Emerald, why is this considered a good game? Gen III was weak in general and I don't think the battle frontier makes up for those faults.
It was like a horrible dry spell between Fire Red/Leaf Green to Platinum.
>>28311536
This. DPPt was a rebirth to the series as a whole and is vital to playing the games. Plus Sinnoh is the best region hands down
>>28307267
Follow >>28307304 But just be warned that Emerald is an older game than HeartGold/SoulSilver. The mechanics don't work the same, but it shouldn't be a huge problem either way
HG/SS have awful level curve but with a little patience it won't be a problem
>>28307304
I'd suggest this, but remove Emerald. Old mechanics are wonky and it doesn't offer a unique experience like the other games. Ghost being physical still kills me.
>>28307304
This, but either play Emerald before HGSS, OR play it with a physical/special split mod.
>>28307267
SoulSilver or HeartGold
>>28307304
Shittiest taste in the thread
Fire Red -> Heart Gold -> Platinum -> Black -> Black2 -> XY
For a new fan that's already a lot of game time, but if you want then squeezing Emerald and ORAS somewhere in there is also a good idea.
The super-truncated version of all that is (IMO):
Fire Red -> Black -> the yet-to-be-realeased Sun and Moon versions
How good is ORAS compared to Emerald?
I played emerald a few years back and enjoyed it but now I'm playing through every gen before SM releases and I don't know which of them I should play.
>>28307304
>>28312833
ORAS is mostly nostalgia pandering; not worth playing if you aren't attatched to the originals, haven't played the originals, or are just playing to have a current gen game that isn't shit.
It's way easier than the originals, and lacks some features the old game had (pokeblock making, good contests/that rental pokemon tent, the cool pokenav with the calling feature), but has some new cool features (dexnav, online secret base sharing, delta episode, soaring).
I wouldn't recommend playing it after having played emerald, as most changes will bother you, unless you're fueled by pure nostalgia.
>>28307924
>>28311958
>it doesn't offer a unique experience like the other games
>emerald
>not unique
It's like you're some sort of retard.
>>28307304
As others have said:
FRLG > Emerald > HGSS
