Greninja was very disliked. People were debating if it was real or not even when the early release people got their copy.
There were a lot of people saying they were switching to Chespin after seeing Fennekin's final evolution.

I like Chesnaught, but it's sad that the fanbase is almost entirely comprised of history revisionist bullshitters. Literally the only time when Greninja was polarizing in /vp/ was when the first, low-quality image was leaked in Sept 29. When we got more images, Pokemon-Amie screens and also the others' evos, he instantly became the most liked.

I can't seem to find the biggest poll made in /vp/ regarding the Final Starter evos. One that had around 7,000 votes, though it admittedly got shared in LE READIT.

I have a very simple filter for separating critical opinions from flat-out shitposters:

If they refer to the pokemon by a cringeworthy name, like Blashitken, Shitnaught, Shitphlosion, Grenigger and the like, they are most likely shitposters.

If they state their disapproval calmly and with aplomb, they're simply someone that dislikes that pokemon for X reason.

When the shitposting got out of control about three months ago I started to notice that in all of those threads, whenever a new post talking about "shitnaught" and "chesnautfags" was made the number of posters didn't go up most of the times.

Not only that but they talk in exactly the same way, and I don't mean this like they only use the same terms. And the post are more or less the same in every thread this happens.
So yeah, don't dismiss it as one shitposter, is most likely 5-10 anons having some fun.

And let's be honest, considering how so obsessed and passional about hating a fictional monster and anyone who likes it these guys are, I refuse to accept they're not shitposting, because it would be pretty sad if they're serious.

Greninja slowly became polarizing overtime because he was so overwhelmingly popular. Ash-Greninja did not help. It's hard to talk about him now without starting a shitposting war.

But that's really only true on /vp/ now though. What you say is otherwise all true.

Chesnaught however was never popular. Delphox at least had the waifufags, Chesnaught barely even riled up the barafags and they were at their worst at the time of his reveal.
