Simple. Totem Gumshoos exists. There has to be a Normal captain, we haven't seen one. Furthermore, we know that you get the Z Crystals for passing the trials. There are 18 of them.

Well, it is certain the Normal trial is on Melemele, but I can't pinpoint if there are any others. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that the Flying trial isn't even on the map. (it takes place in the air)
