When I first played as a kid I can remember using Swampert, Sharpedo, Kyogre and Hariyama

I can't for the life of me remember the other two. For the most part I just plowed through the game with Swampert.

I do recall having used a Magneton at one point as well to soften Kyogre up. I thought the game may have been lying to me when it said the Master Ball caught without fail, so I weakened it a bit just in case.

I picked Treecko as a starter, but hated him because he didn't learn any good Grass moves. I tried running Torkoal and Manectric, but they both were underwhelming.

I've since gone back and had a lot more success and fun, but that run was so terrible that it put me off Pokemon until the HG/SS remakes.

Though it took me a whole while to finally beat the champion (204 hours), I can't recall my exact team anymore, but it should be something like this:

I didn't know shit about pokemon then, was mostly me banging my head against the game until I got through.

May's Grovyle pre Mauville was a fucking terror, also Flannery's Torkoal's overheat somehow hit like a truck despite shit base stats and resistances. Psychic gym's Solrock's solarbeam was also a fucking dick to play against. Bide tided me through Torkoal/Slaking, moveset was Surf/EQ/Bide/something.

I always get an electric type if its convenient (started in G/S/C with mareep), moveset was bite (crunch?) and 3 electric moves because there wasn't anything else to teach it. The abundance of flying pokemon and water routes made grinding levels easy.

I liked his look and Surf/Fly + Ice moves made it really useful in my book. Only when BW rolled around did I realize how bad he was, still loved the fucker though. Favourite water/flying.

Thought Makuhita looked cute so I caught one, saved my ass against Norman and Sidney.

Baltoy looked cute (you can see where I'm going with this) so I caught one, tried to use it as an attacker instead of in-game defensive support with 70 SPA.

Shedinja blew my mind as a kid. I caught Nincada and was just leveling it idly to see what it evolved into when I got Ninjask and a second Pokemon in my party. Wonder Guard had me freaking out thinking I had stumbled on some kind of secret hidden legendary.

I really didn't care as much about Pokemon when I was playing RSE and just slogged through and used whatever I caught first. Casteform was an exception because it was just so adorable. It mostly sat i the back of my party unused though.

I missed the Gen I poll. Mine was Venusaur, Pidgeot, Lapras, Raichu, Khangaskhan, and Vaporeon.

All except Lapras were picked because of the anime.

I tried to raise a Dragonite but didn't have the patience for it. My Raichu and Vaporeon were evolved the second I could and Raichu suffered for it too.

Blaziken was the shit.

It went from literal baby chicken to fighting chicken to full on martial artist. It was one of the best evolutionary lines for sensical progression instead of "it gets bigger"

It hit hard and wrecked shit. Only second to Feraligaor.

It was basically a solo starter run until the 7th badge when I got Groudon and Rayquaza. I don't think I ever went to Pacifilog town in that play through. I didn't keep that file for long. I deleted it after trading the first 3 mons to my brother so I could keep them after my next play through. I barely remember my first file, since my second one is the one that had 800 hours on it and a complete Pokedex.

For Emerald I went through the entire game up until rayquaza with a nuzleaf and HM mules.
I threw swampert in the pc once it turned ugly.

I was never much of a team player, I usually just leveled one pokemon.

I had both Ruby and Sapphire as a kid, but I've forgotten what I actually used.

I know I picked Blaziken for Ruby, and Swampart for Sapphire. I know I Sharpedo (caught it instead of evolving it) and Breloom. I probably used Swellow and Pelipper as well as the version legendaries but beyond that I don't remember anything.

I was like 12 when I've first played my Sapphire version. I've always liked to explore the whole game before beating the Elite 4. I remember I had to go to a fucking lan house to use internet and see how I could evolve my Feebas (Which, I admit, was the luckiest thing I ever had in Pokémon. I was fishing to get a Carvanha/Sharpedo and got him, just when I saw how to evolve it I realized how rare it was. Bagon was a real pain in the ass to evolve before the E4, since I only got him after the last gym, but it was worthy.

That said, my blaziken and Flygon overlevel them by 15~20 level.
Blaziken was OP against the E4 and champion- Ice, Dark, Steel. Flygon had Crunch, Faint Attack, and Dragon Breath, he went trough the Dragon and Ghost E4 like butter. So ehh.
