Her team was fine. I honestly don't know what people thought or expected. She has no type theme or anything. I tihnk most people take issue with her not participating in the story but I mean it's not like Cynthia or Steven or Lance or Alder or whatever really contributed all that much or had their character built upon at all just by being there. Except I just described something that gave Diantha a relatable character. Lots of pokemon characters have character. Cynthia didn't "contribute" anything. The plot and gameplay in general would be exactly the same had she been there or not.

Ignoring that, the criticism that Diantha didn't show up enough is entirely rooted in the idea that her showing up less means we saw less of her character. Otherwise, why does it matter if she showed up before the E4 or not?

Diantha had just as much relevance as any other Champion. Cynthia held your hand through the Distortion World, Lance held your hand through the Rocket Base, Steven helped out at a space port or something, but none of it mattered since anyone could've done the same thing. They're just as useless as Diantha was.

Blue can have 3 flying types, and two psychic types

And even with types champions, steven has 3 rock types on his team 2 of which aren't even steel, Iris has 2 rock types that that aren't even dragon and 2 pure dragon types, and you know all about all of Lance's teams, off the top of my head.

Okay, she had to have a previous gen Pokemon to have a Mega and Gardevoir fits the best. Fine.

But WHY doesn't she use a Florges? Nobody else has it as their ace, and it suits her to a fucking T. She'd have two fairy types but Gardevoir isn't primarily fairy-type and I think it's unfair that ONE Pokemon can't share a type, I'm pretty every champion has had a pokemon that shared types and often multiples. I probably would have put it in over Goodra.

On top of that, Cynthia's Spiritomb had no weakness (this was prior to Fairy) and her Gastrodon was a tank.

Steven's team seemed to be focused on being able to take hits while hitting really hard or whittling away at your team's HP.

You know, maybe she'll get a cameo in XY? She probably has more an excuse than any other champion since she is a fucking movie star and shit. Maybe she'll be shooting a film in Hawaii, maybe? I would be really happy if she showed up. I think her just existing in XY was enough for me, I don't really hold any animosity for them not having her show up more. I really don't think she's anymore egregious than Alder or Lance.

Also I don't watch the anime but it seems to portrays her extremely well. I love how she looks there.

Thinking about it though, she has very little art even with the anime. I would assume she isn't very popular based on that which probably hurts her chances of a cameo, though they seem to have planned a lot of things for SM during XY's development as it is so maybe she was planned to show up there anyway. At least Scamwich did a pretty nice picture of her, Gardevoir being annoyed at having to paint her toes is cute.

Honestly I'd guess that she doesn't get a lot of attention because lookswise she is something of an acquired taste and doesn't pander to everyone like Cynthia and other characters. Lack of any initial popularity further means she won't get any art. Her being better handled within the games could have possibly rectified this. At the very least allow us to find little things out about her since she is supposedly the biggest movie star in Kalos.

After being disappointed as hell by Don't Breathe the other week I wound up watching Wait Until Dark and holy fuck, Audrey Hepburn is unbelievable in it. Wait Until Dark had me more on the edge of my seat in five minutes than I ever was in the entirety of Don't Breathe.

Unpopular opinion alert: i do like Diantha a lot, i think its a great design and idea for a champion. She's surely underused in the game but at least the manga and the anime gave her the edge she needed.

Maybe they'll redeem her in the XY remakes...
