Anyone who thinks megas are going away from the series, especially after what just happened in the anime, is deluding themselves simply because they dislike megas. Alolan forms are meant to diversify gen 1 Pokemon as well as bringing in species variety without wasting a "new Pokemon" slot, nothing more.

Z Stones are going to be a Key item, the Pokemon doesn't have to hold shit to use a Z-Move but you do have to acquire Z-Stones as you progress. What's in the center doesn't matter.
