I'd hesitate to call it Japanese K-Mart because that implies that Japan doesn't have big-box stores. It does, just not in the heart of big cities like Tokyo.

Don Quixote is more like if you took one of those stores, compressed it so that it could fit on the corner lot of a Shibuya street, and filled it with weird, inscrutable Japanese merchandise. Toys. Clothes. Housewares. Stationery. Candy. Hyper dense, each store is kind of a sensory overload maze.
