thanks to the bank, building and maintaining a living dex through the generations is going to be a lot easier. porting pokemon up from RSE, DPPt, and even BW is slow and a pain in the ass, especially in comparison to the efficiency of the bank with XYORAS
If you can complete a living dex now, all you have to worry about is just adding in the new ones whenever another generation is released. maybe 100 new pokemon/forms will be nothing compared to the ever growing collection you already slaved over.

You start with the regional dexes. They are actually pretty easy to fill in XY and feel pretty satisfying as milestones.
From there you just gotta go for it. It will feel incredibly satisfying once you do it.

Wondertrade ans GTS also help a lot.
