Is Pokemon a video game "staple" like Mario and Legend of Zelda?
What is this, the 90s? Video game staples are Minecraft and Call of Duty.

No. Not much games use its style of gameplay.
>ran for 20 years
>a mobile game they released is the Number 1 most played game/downloaded app in history
No, far from it.

underage b&
you don't remember the avalanche of pokemon imitators in the early 2000s...everyone wanted a piece. Pokemon rip offs came out, even established series like Dragon Quest had their "monsters" titles
Fuck even Bomberman began to focus on collecting and training monsters
Pokemon is a goddamn icon

All GOTYs within the last 5 years or so have never gotten the same amount of attention as Angry Birds, Candy Crush, or more recently, Pokemon Go.
Mobile games will continue to be the more widely known and accessible games among the general public. The fact that Pokemon Go has been able to trump past mobile games is a big accomplishment, even if the game itself is shit.

This.
Pikachu is THE most recognizable character next to Mario.
Does that tell you enough?

>actually asking this question
>>28122422
I wouldn't call LoZ a staple any more

Pac-Man and a few others might actually beat him/them out, but Pikachu is definitely at least in the top 10 most recognizable video game characters.
