With this team, Ash uses powerful Pokemon while still getting Pikachu early on. Kingler and Snorlax provide comic relief while still being powerful, and Arcanine being the loyal Pokemon that Ash can count on, like Charizard became. I think it fits because unlike Charizard, Arcanine is a dog, which are well-known to be loyal. Obviously, Venusaur would be the powerhouse and easily take down Gary's Blastoise.

Ash would have won the league with this team and then we'd be able to have a new protag for gold and silver.
