It almost certainly has a day/night cycle. And probably random percipitation at some locations.

But seasons wouldn't really make sense since this is a tropical island based on Hawaii, and it only snows at higher elevations if any.

Seasons, along with economic and politic cycle, affect item prices in stores, trainer battle prize money, and wild animals you encounter..
Lots of weather in sun and moon now. Acid Rain came back, it damages all pokemon except poison and steel, with poison form castform and poison weather ball. Typhoon is the nerf version of Delta Stream. Eclipse is weather for Ghost and Dark type, it reduces damage of water and fire moves by 25%. Other types gain terrains. Psychic gain 50% more damage in trick room, wonder room, and the new reverse-room that reverse type effectiveness. Normal Room is a room that increases normal-type move by 50% and makes type effectiveness irrelevant.
