New mechanic: "Hidden type" (HT)

Give an extra STAB to the pokémon when he uses a move of the same type of its hidden type

However, Hidden types don't give an extra weakness or multiply the current weaknesses

Ex:

Gyarados has "dragon characteristics", so it has dragon as hidden type, therefore its dragon moves get extra damage

Other suggestions to the First Gen:

The idea in theory is alright. Not good, not bad, not interesting, just alright.

In practice, though, it would be a nightmare to balance.

I vote "No, thanks".
>>
I like the idea, didn't check your typings but it would be a neat addition
>>

>Legendary Pokémon don't get a HT.

This might actually help put them closer to most normal Pokémon.
>>
>>28096758
It is an interesting idea

Except articuno and moltres don't need to get closer to normal Pokemon, they're shitmons. The problem is that their move pools don't have a lot of options to even benefit a hidden type
>>
Trapinch/Vibrava - Bug
Flygon - Flying
Gligar - Bug or Poison
Gliscor - Dark
>>
>>28096758
It's actually a pretty interesting idea. So basically triple types without being triple. And why the hell do I see GF doing this at some point in the future as an excuse for not making actual triple types ?
>>
>>28096828
Only final stages gain HT, so I've listed Blissey, Crobat, Rhyperior, Magmortar, etc.

sudowoodo - grass

Not a terrible idea, actually.

I'm not sure every Pokemon should get one, for some Pokemon like Gyarados, Golduck, Electivire, Blissey, etc it makes since. I'd expect it to get a more Mega/Alolan distribution as a balancing mechanism for something that really needs it.
>>
>>28096998
Sudowoodo- rock

It gets a double Rock STAB, so it's like Adaptability on top of its normal ability.
>>
>>28097157
good idea
>>
>>28096758
>Snorlax's HT being fairy when the only fairy move it learns is charm
For what purpose?
>>
>>28097157
So this could potentially play as an excuse to finally make a Rock/Rock or Fire/Fire pokemon. I'm starting to like this idea more and more.
>>
>>28096758
this is just a big ruse for charizard to be dragon type, right?
i likey
>>
>>28096758
>Machamp - steel
Makes sense with Bullet Punch, I suppose. Not bad.

Should Conkeldurr get Rock?

>Pokemon gets all the benefits of a type and none of the repercussions

How about no
>>
>>28096758
good but change venusaur from ground to frog and its perfect
>>
Would pretty much turn the meta even more sweeper-based. Also I feel like new typing was what mega and alolas were for.
>>
>>28096758
Really liking the idea. Nice list btw
>>
>>28097602
This

Unless the effect are so slight like between 1.15-1.2x more damage instead of normal STAB it would be a clusterfuck to balance.
>>
>>28097602
yeah. either dont do it, or make it a very weak stab
>>
>>28097602
Maybe just a 25% boost ? 35% ?
>>
>>28097719
>like between 1.15-1.2x more damage
yes this would work

>>28096910
>not making actual triple types
triple types would suck

may as well push the boat out, have 'duo-types' which would take a single type slot (of 2) and be a combo of set typings ie grass / water could now be grass-water / bug-flying
>>
>>28096758
>make way too many OP pokemon more OP
>free STAB, no added weakness
This is retarded and completely asinine
>>
Hidden type could work if it was their 2nd Hidden Ability

Example: Use new item on Blastoise, it's ability switches from Torrent to Hidden Type Steel
Blastoise now gets stab on Steel moves without the benefits or drawbacks of being Steel type, nor does Blastoise have torrent boost anymore
>>
if a pokemon is a faggot it gain the fairy STAB?
>>
>>28097985
you're missing the point
triple types wouldn't really work very well because all 3 types could contradict each other and it would be difficult for young players to learn what exactly was going on

with a hidden type this added complexity wouldn't exist but the benefits of a 3rd type would still be there — for balance you make it weaker than normal stab

has anyone eve me tried to make a romhack with triple types?
