In the anime, we didnt even know that he had any other pokemon, and Metagross/Metang was the only pokemon introduced prior to the league.
And look at Alan, we've only seen him use Charizard and no other pokemon to fight, so of course it's gonna be over powered.

No, he has an OP Charizard and other average mons which we have no idea how he obtained, though if he did obtain them by himself then that is a feat. Fact of the matter is, we don't know where he even got his other mons when we've only seen him use Charizard.

No, Ash got the farthest he has ever had, to the finals down to the very last pokemon of his opponent, even if he also was down to Greninja

Well shoot me in the shin and call me Shirley. We know, and I'm sure Ash does too, but a league challenge isn't supposed to be easy, so give Ash some credit for making it far by not relying on match-ups (even if they would help him out). Also, if a water shuriken can beat a grass-dragon then I'm sure a blast burn from OPzard can beat a upgraded greninja.

Plus, Ash evened out all of his pokemon, meaning their all around the same level. Alan's too, because seeing how Metagross lost to Louis and Charizard steamrolled everybody else, then it shows that Alan's pokemon are way behind Charizard, just showing how overpowered it is.
If Alan was truly strong then his team would have steamrolled Ash; just goes to show that Ash can beat an improvised team (with a struggle I suppose)

I imagine Alan as a kid playing Pokemon Red with the Lv. 75 Charizard and the rest of his team are just meek Lv. 30-40s, though if I had to give it a number...

Ash's team: Varying levels from 50 through 60, with Pikachu probably 60-70
Alan's team: Same as Ash, but Charizard is probably 70-80 or more, and is then packed with a mega evolution

Yeah, I agree. If anything he should have steamed through the league with only Pikachu and smashed MegaOPzard into the ground with a simple quick attack, but seeing as how it was beat by a Lv. 5 Snivy then we can just call it the writers pulling the rug on us.

TL;DR
Ash isnt bad. Made it farthest he's ever had in the league. Had to face a level 100 Megazard. A reverse team Tobius system basically.
