I think I'll eventually grow fond of them but I'm still dissapointed that they will most likely turn out to be the official designs.

Also, despite being someone who likes spoilers, I feel like the surprise was ruined for me. Last gen we found out about the starters' final evolutions because some stores were getting the games early, it was just one or two weeks apart from the official release. Compared to other Gamefreak concept art, they don't fit.
The formatting is wrong in that they don't have any diagrams and not nearly enough notes. Think engineer's notebook sketches and the level of description that has to go into it.
The art is.. wrong. Look at all the simplistic work and lack of detail in Litten's hands and Rowlet's legs and feet.
Gamefreak doesn't use placeholder names like "Tiger3, Owl3, Seal3". All concept art has the name.
People are suggesting the reason Ash and Pikachu are there is because it's for the anime, however, if it was for the anime, the Pokemon would have to already be completed for the game and have a finalized name.


I'm not saying they ARE definitely fake. They may even come from GF. But it is unlikely that these are real.

Probably this. I'm not exactly sure how many people tried to call his attention with presumed leaks, but I'm sure there were lots. I only know of these two users who did ended up blocked by him after pestering him about these (they weren't even subtle about it, I think I recall one of them posting in such a way that they really did believe they were real), but last I heard, he actually unblocked them? I'm not so sure about that last part.

There was another guy after that who tried to test the waters using Ballio & crew (which he himself knew about them being fake) and seeing Sugi's reaction to a obvious fake compared to a presumably real leak. Not sure which image he ended up showing though, so fuck if I know, he made some posts and threads going on like "It's been X hours and he hasn't blocked me yet". Not sure how authentic that guy was, but he might have been more gentler on his approach if true and Sugi probably didn't think much of it, although I never heard about the disclosure of that.

Those are the only ones I remember actually being involved with Sugi's Twitter.

A lot of these aren't attacking moves. Disarming Voice is a lot more convincing to become a fairy than say Charm, because it's more likely to be for STAB than just a mon's attributes.

Also Bite seems to be the outlier, but a Fairy move seems like a more exotic pick that Bite

Charmander's point is dumb. Of course no flying moves, doesn't have wings to do it.
Bulbasaur... is actually a good point. I always hated that until XY gave early game Venoshock.
Squirtle gets Bite as a carry over from gen 1 where it was normal. Iron Defense cus it has a shell.

Chikorita gets Dual Screens and Poison Powder. Dual Screens are actually a good example, but poison powder is basically a grass move.
Cyndaquil gets Rollout, which is more based off of it being a hedgehog than anything. Plus this is at Level 49, long after anyone would've evolved it.
Totodile is actually a good case, with Bite. Ice moves are normal for water mons, Superpower comes way after any evolution.

Torchic gets Peck, Sand attack, and Mirror Move because it's a bird, but it's flightless.
Mudkip you already mention
Treecko getting pursuit is good point for dark type. It's other moves come after Sceptile

Piplup gets Mist? lol. And Peck, because again, bird.
Chimchar gets Taunt. Torment, and Nasty Plot, non attacking, and Acrobatics after Infernape
Turtwig gets Curse, Withdraw, and Bite/Crunch. First 2 are cus its a turtle, See Bite.

Tepig gets Smog, which is learned by Fire Types anyway, and other moves come post Emboar
Snivy gets Coil + Gastro Acid way after Serperior
Oshawott has the best arguement thus far. Revenge and Fury Cutter were odd.

Someone knew about Mallow, they had a leak about mallow, and instead of spilling his guts on a real leak, he doubled down and made fakes of the starters final evos, released them with Mallow inside, and waited for the fake leak to be confirmed real by Mallows apperance.

It'd really be the best way to get the best mileage out of your leak.

Well for one, roothoot and rowlet are both owls, thats really it. On the other hand, mallow and mallow look extremely similar to the point where denying that they are similar is a moot point.
Also the trademarks said cat and seal, which finpip and cubble were not in the slightest.

The leaker was likely a translator for the Chinese version (remember how they creamed themselves over SM being playable in Chinese in the reveal trailer?) and these guys give literally 0 fucks about things like intelectual properity and keeping company's secrets, well, secret. If these are the real starters, then Gen 7 will easily have the worst batch of starter Pokémon in the series.

Did it ever occur to you that since this is a reference sheet it only makes sense to draw the hair like that so artist's can get a clear view of it? (Notice the hair actually follows the law of gravity on the bottom drawing.) If the hair is still floating like that in the OFFICIAL art, then complain.

How is design a factor against its validity. If anything, that's just you being bias about the design. You are disregarding the fact there's a 2nd stage for these starters that helps better explain the transition to the final evolution.
