Why does /vp/ hate Talonflame? Its up there with Staraptor and Swellow design wise but has a unique (for regional birds) typing. Would have been interesting to see Staraptor with fighting type over normal though, as it's more of the dogfighting and close combat bird.

I agree with the Fighting/flying staraptor, it makes sense thematically. But people dont actually hate talonflame, they hate smogon's use of it. They hate how its a staple of their competitive battling, mainly because /vp/ is filled with smogon haters. The pokemon itself is very good.

Probably my favorite regional bird just for the concept. A specially-defensive owl with access to psychic/ghost type moves was fucking great. Then they went right back to boring, standard speed/physical attack stuff ever since.

Why is Swellow counted as Hoenn regional bird instead Pelipper?

I think both of them are regional birds at same level, fitting the theme of the game (Swellow the regional bird of land routes and Pelipper the regional bird of sea routes). They even have the same total base stats and are together in Pokedex.

Hell, even Pelipper is slightly more common than Swellow.

Unfezant is actually pretty decent, it makes up no access to Brave Birb by being the only regional birb to learn Sky Attack and has 115 Attack to fuck shit up.
What helds him back the most is relatively low speed and not having a lot of coverage moves.
