Weird question I'm drawing a blank on and don't have a game near me to test...
On Bulbapedia when a move is listed as "may affect anyone adjacent to the user", does that mean you can ALWAYS use it on an ally?
Maybe I'm wrong but I see damaging moves listed as such but I thought you couldn't just attack an ally with your own move, right? Only certain non-damaging moves like Worry Seed and such.
earthquake hits everyone though. You should know this from playing already.

Well, you didn't play enough.

I get that.
I mean single target moves are listed as "may affect anyone", as in can hit a single target from among them, Earthquake is "affects all" so it's clear it hits everyone.
But you can't just use Absorb or Iron Tail on an ally, right?

Well you can in Showdown but I don't think that's possible in the real games.

Have you never seen Beat Up Whimsicott + Justified Terrakion cores in vgc? Or even PuP mega Kang + Cresselia. Yeah it's possible and there are stategies that abuse it

Okay, neat. It was really hard to find a solid answer to this, and one source I found made it seem it could only be done in Generation III.
I learned something new today.

Showdown follows the exact same rules as the games, besides certain bans and clauses.
Yes you can attack allies, how new are you?

Played since Generation I.
I guess I don't do Doubles enough, I remember doing this in Gen III for fun but I legitimately thought you could only use certain non-damaging moves on allies.

You can attack your own Pokemon. Tonnes of moves like Smelling Salt and Heal Pulse are based around that mechanic. They don't do enough with it, but if you didn't know that then you've not been playing properly
