>there are 21 honey trees in Sinnoh
>the only 4 trees you can catch a Munchlax on are randomly generated and impossible to determine unless you know your secret ID
>and even then, there is only a 1% chance you'll find one after waiting AN ENTIRE DAY for it to arrive
>and you can't just set your DS clock ahead 24 hours
>this is the ONLY way to get Munchlax (and therefore Snorlax) in DPP without transferring from FRLG/trading from HGSS
>and Heracross (also honey tree exclusive) is just about as rare
What the hell was Game Freak thinking?
>>
How did anyone ever catch them all? Holy crap.
>>
you realize you could just breed a munchlax right, just give snorlax a full incense and let it fug ditto
>>
>>27965636
I hate shit like this. Honey Trees and Feebas spots were a mistake.
>>27965664
They probably just traded a Snorlax and bred it. No one is retarded enough to do this...right?
>>
Heracross is nowhere near as hard to get as munchlax, I can usually get one every run in Plat.

Curious to see if anyone here has ever got a Munchlax from a honey tree
>>
>>27965636
It's made to encourage trading. They're rare, so if a player gets them, they can breed and trade with others. It was made much more convenient with DPPt because of Wi-Fi trading.
>>
Same reason why a substantial amount of interesting Johto mons were put into late Kanto areas in GSC.
>>
>>27965690
Yeah, but without FRLG or HGSS, this is the only way to get Snorlax.
>>
>>27965765
You can snag one in Gale of Darkness but the point still stands that it's a pain in the ass. Or you can just hack one in.
>>
I mean how did people ever find feebas in the old days of RSE?
>>
>>27965927
fish three times on every square in the lake and you're pretty much guaranteed to run into a feebas at some point. It takes a while but isn't that hard to do

I found one by accident, and the jewed my friends for literally years
>>
>>27965744
This. Most people got their Muchlax via the GTS
>>
>>27965927

A day dedicating to fishing for it.
>>
>>27965967
Yeah but how were you supposed to know that it was in a specific set of squares in the first place? When you look at your pokedex it says it's available on the entire route.
>>
>>27965927
I've found one literally by luck. I was fishing in my old Sapphire version and run against this fucker. Luckly for me, she was Mild, and it helped a lot to evolve.
>>
>>27965967
I fished 5 times per square to be safe and then moved to the left after. Feebas isn't actually difficult to find since you can go through the whole lake in a half hour.

if i recall correctly, it wasn't that hard to catch one, i didn't remember this as struggle
>>
>>27965927
I did! It was amazing. Still never found Mirage Island though...
>>
>>27965636
Those times where Pokemon wasn't an easy game for kids and you had to work hard to get some rare pokemons. I miss those times.

Guide books were a thing
>>
>>27966314
>the only 4 trees you can catch a Munchlax on are randomly generated and impossible to determine unless you know your secret ID
That's the only problem, just make 4 trees and problem solved, no randomly generated bullshit.
>>
>>27966314
>>27966359
There's a little of that back with DexNav, I enjoy hunting for good breed moves and hidden abilities but yeah I know what you mean

Back in gen 2 Teddiursa and Phanpy were also super rare, only a 5% chance to appear in the morning, and would try to run away when you encounter them
>>
I found one once when looking for a female combee. Ended up catching but not using it.
>>
I remember waiting on these trees to bring me an Aipom and Munchlax.
Got my Aipom but never got a Munchlax from them. I didn't know you had to go through all this though.
>>
>>27966314
>>27966382
Yes, it's fine to have some Pokemon be very rare.

The problem is that Munchlax is an extreme example of this.

>A 1 in 100 chance of finding it on a honey tree.
>Not just any honey tree, but 4 specific honey trees out of the 21 total, with the only way of knowing being which 4 they are is by deciphering your Secret ID, which the game never shows you.
>You have to wait for 6 hours after putting honey on the tree before a Pokemon appears.
>Saving before checking the tree isn't a massive help due to the fact that the Pokemon leaves the tree if not checked for 24 hours.
>>
>>27965709
I got one on my very first run of Diamond, but I didn't know that they were a rarity for Honey Trees until much later.
>>

>>27966409
i understand if you don't believe me, but it really is legit, idk how i can proove it, i was playing every day and simply apply honey at tree on route 205, and after few days it appeared, that's all and it felt good
>>
>>27965709
I did, twice. Over the course of several years playing DPPt across SEVERAL playthroughs where I used all the trees.

>Japanese Diamond, 2006
>English Pearl, 2007
>Japanese Platinum, 2008
>English Platinum (pirated) , 2009
>English Platinum, 2010

The trees shakes like fuck so you'll know if you finally get a munchlax because nothing else shakes that much.
>>
>>27965636
Munchlax was the first pokemon I caught on those trees. I didn't even know how rare they were.
>>
>>27965636

They was thinking about fun
>>
>>27967244
Some people might shit on you but I do enjoy it.

Goodmons needing you to go through hell and back to find them like in Reborn and Rejuvenation also make them feel so much better.
>>
>>27965692
I liked Feebas spots
>>
>>27967384
Just don't keep restricting goodmons once the player reaches the level where fucking everyone and their mother has a Gyarados or something and the player still can't find anything better than a Rattata.

Also, have some consistency, Rejuvenation pissed me off so fucking much when Magikarp is impossible to find but a fisherman throws 6 of them at you for a retarded unfunny joke anyway.

How much work do you have?

Not sure how simple you are, but it's very obvious you got lucky and honey'd the correct tree for your secret ID and found it within a reasonable time. Is it really difficult in any way to understand that other people might have a different experience?
>>
>>27965636
Didn't help that back in the day serebii said only the honey tree in the Valley Windworks had Munchlax, so nobody fucking knew how to actually get it for the longest time.
>>
>>27965967
Fish twice on every tile and you have a 1% chance of not finding feebas. I finally got feebas about a month ago, on the very last tile.
>>
>>27965927
Once I found out about the 6 spots I fished 3-4 times in each spot, found one of the spots in about 20 minutes.
>>
>>27966314
Yes, because spending hours trying to get those super-rare mons definitely makes a monotonous process less monotonous.

>>27966359
None of that was ever hard, and thanks to the over 50 legendaries out there, its harder then ever to get them all just to get a complete dex.
>>
>>27967517
Looking forward to it, just so you know.

Maybe I should find another essentials fangame to LP for /vp/.
>>
>>27965967
It's doable, but is it, in any sense, fun?
>>
Which is why Barry is the best pokemon hunter

"Munchlax is extremly hard to catch alone"

At least you can catch him, with a mix of luck and patience, not like Spiritomb. Faggot
>>
>>27965636
>you can't set you ds clock ahead 24 hours
>doesnt know you can set it at 23:59 and wait 1 minute

fucking children
>>
>>27967753
If you have two DS system you can get it in 30 minutes or so.
I'm more upset that you can't get the Wi-Fi ribbon anymore.
>>
>>27965692
I found a feebas spot without knowing they even existed.
>>
>>27965709
I did. I had no idea they were rare. Just slathered some honey on a tree and came back and got it.
>>
>>27965927
>Be me
>Be autist
>Around eight or so
>Fishing in every single spot one at a time until I get Feebas
>Days go by
>Try right before school
>Finally get it
>Catch the fuck out of it
>Be a dumb fucker and not realize the proper way to evolve it and end up with a level 100 Feebas that wasn't that bad
>>
>>27965692
>I hate shit like this. Honey Trees and Feebas spots were a mistake.
My nigger.

>>27965927
>>27965967
If you are lucky, you can pass 3 days fishing every fucking water square and don't find any. Don't worth it, just trade.
>>
>>27966314

Having rare pokemon by such a convoluted method has, is, and always will be retarded.
>>
>>27965664
I found a Munchlax after a few weeks of trying, but i also found Mirage Island on the release date of Emerald back then so i guess i'm just lucky.
>>
>>27967902
>If you have two DS
You also need another D/P/Pt game

And all that is more expensive than a Fire Red/Leaf Green game, to have a Snorlax
>>
>>27968642

I'm really more a fan of the "there is this very specific area where the pokemon spawn" kind of rare. Like in Meteor Falls, there is that one secluded little island where Bagons pop out, or the small patch to the right of verdanturf forest where you get slakoth
>>
>>27968897
It's petalburg forest and slakoth appears anywhere on the map
>>
>>27968897
>the small patch to the right of verdanturf forest where you get slakoth
Except that's not true, even if it's a neat idea
>>
>>27965636
I was lucky. I got a Munchlax on the third tree I honeyed. I didn't even know Munchlax was that rare.
>>
>>27968933
>>27968935

Well, fuck. I got tricked then, thanks.

speaking of which, alolan trick house when
>>
>>27968022

Why would you go on the internet and tell lies like that? Is it to fit in? Are you literally 12?

>know how to find feebas
>not how to evolve it
