Coconut crabs are not native there, and very rare but potentially dangerous to native plants and animals. They'll eat eggs, birds, really whatever they can get their claws on. Nature is rough. Coconut crabs are awesome, but they can do some real damage in a foreign ecosystem. Last one in Hawaii apparently got brought to the zoo to live out its days, at least. If your crab was a coconut and not some native terrestrial species, you can tell yourself it was for the greater good.

I teach biology, and Hawaii is a really weird case where there are organisms from all over the world but the native creatures are really struggling. You'd see birds from every continent in town and then have to go way into the mountain forests to have a chance of seeing the species that arrived there naturally and evolved, like the IRL Oricorio honeycreepers. It's been one crazy experiment in isolation and invasion ever since the volcanoes first breached the surface.
