Ash-Greninja still needs to beat the elite four and the region champion. I doubt that flame hair and co will let ash get the chance to finally be region champ.

Going for the E4 is optional, and surely doesn't have to be immediately, there's an invitation to be taken.

Also, the next 4 or so chapter descriptions are all regarding Team Flare plot with Zygarde and Z1/Z2. So once the league ends, we'll move to Flare plot, and most likely will drag on until November, when Alola games are launched.

Surely Ash will take some vacations on Alola, take the challenges (there's no formal gyms there), and maybe after that come back to Kalos to face the E4.
