Even characters I adore in the anime like Diantha, Lysandre, Malva, and practically all of the Gym Leaders are not redeemed in the game because of it.

I just took my kinda-competitive recreation of Ash's team through the E4 to get their ribbons and hall of fame entry, and everyone is just as shitty as ever. Especially Malva who straight up threatens to murder you, and Diantha who isn't at all cute like in the show.
