That would be fantastic honestly. Alex Hirsch is such a perfect choice. He loves Pokemon and made an incredibly good mystery series that appeals to people of all ages. I can't think of a better combination.

I think the Gravity Falls style of mystery and comedy could work pretty well for Detective Pikachu.

I wonder how close they'll stay to the game. I'm sure they're going to at least keep the basic premise of Pikachu and Tim Goodman, but maybe they'll do an original plot instead of adapting the game one.

I mildly enjoyed Gravity Falls. Felt like a bunch of 5th graders playing World of Darkness, which was pretty fun.

Guardians was inoffensive but ultimately only worth a one time viewing. Don't get why everyone clinged to it so hard. Felt kind of generic.

Overall, I have mild hopes it won't be shit. Right now I'm expecting a handful of cringey forced jokes and a lot of anime/GO pandering, but a story that will keep me at least amused and an equal handful of legitimately funny moments. Maybe one awkwardly placed joke about IVs or something super specific to the actual handheld games as some attempt to pay them lip service.

I didn't watch GF, but at the very least we'll have people familiar with writing media aimed at children writing for a movie aimed at children. It might not be great, but it won't be The Last Airbender/Dragonball Evolution.

Hope rushing Gravity Falls to end on season 2 was worth this. Not being sarcastic, Detective Pikachu could be fun.

Because it's literally the only Pokemon characters Gamefreak or Nintendo or whatever is willing to give out the movie rights to. Legendary wants to cash in on Pokemon Go so it's taking whatever they can get. Max Landis wrote an original story that he succesfully pitched that was about a trainer and an old beaten up Graveller becoming the Pokemon League champions, but they couldn't get the rights to use any of the Pokemon in the script so it was scrapped for this.

I get that S2 might have feel rushed since fillers completely dropped off after the first few episodes, but I honestly don't see how they could've stretched that plotline for another 20 episodes. Sure, they could've expanded on/introduced more stuff, but I think it ended pretty well with what they had established up to that point.

Gravity Falls was awesome but its final episode (part 3 of it) so ass-blastingly and obliviously generic that it made the whole series hard to enjoy. That being said its writers should be good enough for a Pokemon film.
