The early volumes are terrible. The characters are bland and generic, the plot is rushed as fuck. Red is boring, he has no motives or anything, he's literally naruto. Gold sucks too, he's 90's cringe character.

Crys was the first good character, she had a beliavable and unique personality that wasn't a cliche. She had proper emotional moments and development. From then on the manga got a lot better.

I think I might be one of the few that dislikes the manga. I read the manga all the way up to gen 2, but the manga made me cringe at how bad it is way to many times. Not fan of the art and story is lacking. I can't believe in going to say this, but even the pokemon anime for gen 1 and 5 are more fun to watch, than the manga is to read. It's not so much edgy as simply more realistic. Pokemon can actually get hurt in really extreme battles (and the Arbok the other anon mentioned wasn't even really cut in half if I remember right). If it was really trying to be edgy, Red would have died a million times during his adventure, Gold would be trying to make a living in the stone age, half the cast of the Hoenn arc would be dead, etc.

And the titties aren't really that big. They're certainly well within the standards of teenage girls, if not straight up flat like Yellow.
