Staryu / Starmie have always been based, it has professional typing and perfectly fits in the gap between mysterious and too edgy

it had a stint in uu at the start of gen 6. gengar has been more consistent.

Competitively, yeah, I guess it is one of the greatest out there. The fact that it's stayed in OU every gen despite being psychic type is actually kind of impressive

I've always liked Starmie, but never actually used one ingame or trained a comp one (I prefer playing doubles, where it doesn't do as well). Maybe someday.
