What's a good modded ROM to play? I've never played one before and am bored of the mainline games.

Depends on what you're looking for. I'm playing Star Sapphire right now, no story changes/fakemon as far as I can tell but most trainers have full teams that incorporate actual strategy, some have megas too. Pokemon that can usually only be caught after beating Groudon/Kyogre are available from the start, EV training and breeding is made a bit easier (since most trainers have max IV pokes and high AI), and some evolutions are changed to avoid having to trade.
