All Pokémon have IVs, which are generated when you catch/breed a Pokemon.

Each stat (speed, attack etc) has an IV between 0 and 31. These values cannot be changed normally, and to get a Pokemon with 31 in each IV stat you'd have to breed or inject (or soft reset legendaries).

Each IV point equals to 1 bonus stat in level (so a Pokemon with 403 HP at level 100 with an HP IV if 30 would have 404 if it had 31 IV in HP).

According to the trailers, s/m will have a feature which allows you to change all of the pokemon's IV s to 31 and save up on hours of breeding.

Yep, pretty much. Just from a gameplay perspective, it seems nonsensical to catch a rare pokemon, but for it to be useless in competitive play because of some hidden values that aren't immediately obvious when you look at it.

The only question left is will they be smart enough to allow us to reduce ivs for hidden powers, and to minimise confusion damage on attackers. EV training has a reset bag, so I think it is a strong possibility.

I hope you can decrease IVs, still need those 0 attack special attackers and 0 speed trick roomers. I don't mind going out of my way to breed IVs for those, but it would be a nice addition if you could control IVs overall rather than just increase them.

As a dude who has IV bred and has bred good Pokemon for at least 400 hours (what I'm trying to say is I can't speak for the breeding community that clock 999+ hours into doing it), I like the new system. It requires a level 100 Pokemon, the amount of grinding it takes isn't the EXACT same as the amount of work it takes getting a 5-6 IV perfect egg, but... it's still work. So long as you can't get a perfect specimen for absolutely nothing, I see no issue. The only other solution I could think of is a new type of berry that raises IVs by 1 point each but have a negative effect on the Pokemon otherwise, but this system is fine I guess. I feel like I'm going to be playing ORAS more than S&M for a while anyways.

I really have troubles how people have such a hard time understanding that IV training wont be a replacement for breeding.

Breeding is still going to be the fastest way to get proper IV'd mons, IV Training will be for pokemon that cant be bred, like legendaries, Ditto's etc. And for in game mons, random wild or imperfect hatched shinies, or Volt Tackle Pichu like mons.

IV training is a fantastic edition and I have no idea who in their right mind is complaining about it.

You'll have to spend a whole daybleveling your shitter too 100 then go through another grind which takes god knows how long. All while you could have taken the less time consuming route.

Yeah, but have they elaborated any at all on how this will affect gameplay? If it's just raising IVs to the max of 31 over time then it's not exactly a huge deal. It just means that you can breed for egg moves and nature, maybe a shiny if you're going for it, and then just train up the IVs instead of having to rely on random chance to get everything you want in one single egg. Not exactly that big of a shake up, though it does help save some otherwise awesome hatches that would be held back by one stat missing, or having the wrong nature on a perfect spread.

Now if this somehow lets us boost pokemon stats in a way independent of IVs, or to raise IVs past 31 then that might be capable of doing what you're suggesting. If someone has a "friend" pokemon like a Ledian or an Emolga, even at max stats they aren't "competitive strength", because their base stats are so low to begin with. It seems to be heavily implied that this is just raising the IVs which was previously not possible. Honestly, all that means is that in the future, you'll only have to soft reset for nature on your event pokemon and then crank their stats up with hyper training. They aren't going to let us manipulate stats in such a way that I can crank a Pikachu to a 600 BST, but they will let us crank a Pikachu to it's maximum potential.

That said, it *will* be rather nice to be able to catch a pokemon I like in the game, use it throughout and then hyper train it to be able to use it in battles afterwards instead of breeding it and then releasing it when it's superior progeny outclasses it.

There are multiple ways to delete EVs.
Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew, Grepa and Tamato berries reduce each respective stat by 10 EVs, and they're easy to mass produce; with the berry fields, you can plant multiples of each and get up to around 60 of each in one go.
Reset bag has been a thing for all of gen 6, although it's a pain to have to rely on random chance to try and find one (although quicker than waiting a few days for your berries to grow)
And finally, if you can bear the annoying multiple levels of cross-mutation of berries in XY, once you get a kee and maranga berry, you can get a steady supply of them, and take one of each to the juice shop in lumiose to get a perilous soup which does the same as a reset bag.
All of them are a bit grindy, but in the case of berries, once you get over the initial grind, you've always got a good supply.

Legal Pokemon can be hacked as long as they have a valid stat/move/ability/species combination but injected is always not legit because the game didn't naturally produce it
