The issue with the Alolan forms are not just that they're more genwun pandering, but that they're so far restricted to only Alola. No other pokemon regions have alternate forms for older pokemon?

And alot of the pokemon that got megas were either already viable (salamence/metagross) and just win-more, or weren't going to be very viable anyway (mawile). I don't even like megas that much. A lot of them look goofy and as much as Gyarados having water/dark as a mega helps in shenanigans, they ruined his chance at being a dragon. But the biggest issue with Alola forms is just the new gimmick of this gen, like megas was for last gen. If you need to add new gimmicks each gen, it's going to get crowded. all that wasted effort on megas, then on Alolas, then on new gimmick for gen 8, etc. And Alola is intristically tied to Alola, at least megas can be used anywhere since it's not restricted to Kalos.

Exactly. Alola forms were literally just introduced. They're probably going to be in future installments and retconned into future remakes, as it seems like more of a mainstay than mega-evolution. We'll probably see Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh (etc.) forms as well, although it might just be an instance of Pokemon adapting oddly on Alola since its hinted to be as isolated as the island state it's based on. Weird things tend to happen to animals (uh, Pokemon) on distant, isolated islands.

Guys it's a week before Worlds, I think they did a similar thing before revealing Mega-Blaziken. So it's probably Mega-Crobat and Dragonite and here's why:

1. They already revealed the "gimmicks" of Sun and Moon for the most part, what else would there to be show at Worlds when honestly we'd just shrug and say cool at this point if it's another Alolan Form or showing off new Z-moves . If they really want us by the balls, 100% to get the game not realizing the horrofic monsters those Megas would be for the Meta (honestly they probably wouldn't lol) they showcase them at Worlds.
2. Isn't it kinda weird its JUST Crobat and Dragonite? They're special but why not Metagross...or Salamence...or Milotic...or Flygon or even Lapras as these "Returning Pokemon." On that note why these 2 and not Flygon/Milotic/Lapras/Johto Starters is because if I am right it would be them tipping their hand too much.
3. On that note of Special it would work well, they don't have as much spotlight on them as those others have had, they could make for great Mega Canindates (you know over hyped to become over-broken :P) and played crucial parts in Gold/Silver. (One represents your growth as a Trainer the other the then new game mechanic of Happiness.) If GS -> SM it works, plus it makes sense cause a lot of people loved 3rd and 5th gen and their just doing it in reverse for 6th and 7th gen.
4: Megas aren't a thing yet in 7th gen, and we saw how HYPED people were for them at Worlds 13. Yes some Megas are/seem broken, but a lot of the same disgruntled VGC players spearheading their retirement also have noticed how balanced overall GF's making Sun and Moon. So you could guess Megas can comeback and be not as broken as once before.
5. Like said the timing hints at them being important, and usually the Main Branch ALWAYS spoils its Japanese Fans than anyone else so why not give them the direct-but-indirect headsup?
