Right now they are only doing Gen 1 to pander to Pokemon Go normies. Instead of new mons they are excited for "cooler pokemons they wanted since we were kids, instead of those WEIRD new pokemon!" as one of my friends said. He hasnt played Pokemon since Emerald, and actually preordered Sun, and got an user 3ds on craigslist.
Its all pandering, they just want to capitalise on the Pokemon Go casuals.
