Stare at the shading of the nose. It tends to help me since I try to visualize the mouth but the shading reverts me to seeing the nose.

The nose has a shadow of it's own, easy.

The shading ON the nose not below it. Focus on how round the nose looks.

Also if you have a Gen 6 game try viewing it in the Pokedex from the side to see the nose's shape.

why would a ground type mon that burrows most of the time have a shiny af nose, during gen 1 their poor attempt at adding definition just created an illusion of a tooth

you simply need to devolop a better artistic sense. So you'll understand that a mouth would have a completely differest shadow. Here, I did this for you.
