Literally my mom's Fallout 2.

When I was in highschool I wrote a premise for a fan game that sounded like this except genwun pandering and starkly less edgy.

Mine was basically based in an alternate universe where team rocket is succeeding, controlling the Pokeball market and disarming the population and the goal of the game was mainly to find People that managed to get their hands on Pokeballs and kept their Pokemon, and rebuild Kanto back to how it used to be. (Rebuilding Gyms and creating your own shitty militia basically)

I remember when I first Played Metal Saga as a dumb, eager kid, and I just went out into the world, and had a weird combination of overwhelmed confusion, yet total joy at actually being able to just go. I remember getting shit done in weird orders, and ineffectually grinding alot, before I think I got lost in a cave somewhere.

I picked it back up about a year ago, and got more done in a week than I did in my entire childhood, and didn't even crack open the guides first. That came a bit later.

There's something about that moment of "well... fuck, what do I do now?" having the answer of "Go adventure. Pick a direction and go." that just sells Metal Saga.

The problem with a complete, tonal shift that's more than just a little dark would feel incredibly out of place in the franchise and invariably get criticized just because of it.

I just want a pokemon game set in Kanto region where you set stuck being the pokemon professor for a small town on the outskirts of the map. Your lazy good for nothing uncle ran off and left you with the pokemon lab and ranch, now your stuck playing a monster rancher-esq game where you support new trainers, given em' their starters, take care of their excess pokemon, and keep the town safe from team rocket.

I think it would be fun earning a living, strengthening your pokemon, and going on adventures to find new starters for each years crop of new trainers.
