I like that you can breed Pokemon and give them unique builds, and come up with unique teams. I'm excited about S/M because anything that adds more diversity to the roster of Pokemon is pretty much a positive in my book.

I like the Pokémon themselves. If I were actually in the Pokémon world I'd probably have to be a Ranger, because I can't just have 6 Pokémon with me. I'd want to befriend and be partners with every Pokémon.

I've always liked how the regions are based on real places, particularly the last few years when they've broadened the locations and put more emphasis on this. It's much more interesting to me than if the games took place in a purely fantasy world.

I love reading flavor text and pokedex entries on all the pokemon. Getting to have these pokemon with me is so fulfilling.

This. I can't bring myself to hate any Pokemon. Sure I dislike some designs, and some are shut competitively, but I love them all and they all have their own niche to me.

As much as I've come to unfortunately hate many aspects of the series since Gen 6, I can safely say that Game Freak never ceases to impress me with the designs of their box legendaries. Yveltal and Xerneas were awesome, and I especially love Lunaala and Solgaleo.

The mythical Pokemon have been hit and miss as always, but it's always so hard to choose which version I want because the legendaries look so good every time.

Jesus christ I wish I could swim in Hoenn until I explode from water absorption.

You travel across the whole country making friends with cute/badass creatures (which, by the way, are never the same in each playthrough) that have awesome powers but they can only tap into them thanks to you, making it a mutualistic relationship between trainer and team. i started playing pokemon with pokemon gold, it was a Christmas gift, since my parents would buy me videogames only on special occasions like Christmas; few months later I received blue as a gift from a friend of my sister. I was in my first year of primary school when the anime came out, and I remember at that time pokemon was a big thing, I remember trading the stickers card with my schoolmates and teacher. The anime had such a comfy vibe, everything was so new and unexpected and there were a lot of metropolitan legends going around about the legendaries, 4th evos for the starters, secret paths on the games and so on. I always played at least a game of every generation, and pokemon games has always been a special thing for me, like a magic dimension. I remember playing them in my darkest times, when all my lfe was falling apart. Now its one of those times: my father has parkinson and senile dementia and he's only sixty; the volunteer association where I went for the last three years and thanks to which I made new friends and got over a terrible breakup three years ago, has turned to shit due to a bunch of stupid and ignorant people taking control of it and I feel depressed again. The pokemon world has always been a magical hideout to me, a world where I can retreat to to find purity, fun, fantasy, creativity, it is now, albeit Im now 23 and some of that sheer sense of magic has faded. Maybe some new designs could be unoriginal or uninspired, maybe I wont like some new mechanic, or ability, or move, maybe that pokemon will never be the type i would like it to be, maybe I wont like some new feature, sure, but Pokemon hold a special place in my heart and it will always do

I love the monster designs and the types and how they interact. I like battling and how the anime expands on it. But most of all I like how the monsters aren't just deathmachines, they're your friends and partners. You'd never be lonely in the Pokemon universe because you'd always have your bros right there with you. And if you and your Pokemon are good enough and work hard enough you can live comfortably off just being a professional Pokemon battler. It's just a really neat fantasy world that would be great to live in even though it makes little practical sense.

I love you for making this thread OP. It's nice to get a break from all the arguing and nastiness to focus on why we are even here in the first place.

Anyway, another thing I like especially these days is the emphasis on themeing and the variety of different cultures and myths you learn about from every gen. In this most recent one specifically I'm learning a lot of things about Hawaii I never knew and they way they are implementing them into the games with both the Pokemon themselves (alola forms, very Hawaiian inspired Pokemon) to the new trials just makes me appreciate this series even more and makes me excited to see what they will do next. I also enjoy the emphasis on themes with the starters we've had lately and feel like they create solid group dynamics. Just a lot of fun stuff over the years and I'm glad it has been able to keep going.

The idea of traveling with your Pokemon and getting attached to them as friends seems to have always been a big appeal to /vp/ and the seem to emphasis it more with each games with things like amie. I hope more game applications that let you connect to your Pokemon keep getting added. The rumor/theory that you could talk with your Pokemon through the rotom dex, even if its not that in depth, makes me excited.
