I only knew two people with complete pokedexes IRL, and it was only when Red/Blue/Yellow were out, and they were twin brothers. Nobody else I knew had a link cable.

No, the pokemon master's path is entirely different from the commoners. It is long and hard, but the accomplishment is far greater

If you sit in one spot and one by one trade a magikarp for the entire pokedex, are you a pokemon master? No.

At this point Gamefreak should make future event pokemon avalible to those who have a certain percentage of their pokedex filled. With every generation, what little incentive there is to fill your dex gets smaller. They need a better reward. Maybe a cool Pokemon with a giant dick.

Further enforced by the fact that some Pokemon require trading to evolve, and have required it since Gen I. If you buy multiple games to trade Pokemon between them assuming the life of one-dimensional Poke-protagonists then that's sad as fuck. Battling and trading with buddies makes the experience better (trading EV/IV trained Pokemon to newbie friends is also a pleasant feeling).

I just don't see the point of going through it all again. Catching 'em all is fine and dandy, but if you've been playing the game for as long as most of us have, why catch (and bother transfering) over a Pokemon you hate? You've already CAUGHT them.

However I'm also apparently Captain Autismo because I go nuts anytime I have more than 5 boxes full of unorganized, sub-level 100 Pokemon. Each new gen I catch the Pokemon new to that gen, and then I go back to working on teambuilding, etc.

I can understand wanting a shiny charm at least. What I truly don't understand is saying trading Pokemon with others delegitimizes the ownership of it.

I guess that argument is valid if you spent all that time on the first 2 gens and had to completely start over in gen 3. I never really completed the dex until gen 4 and ever since then it wasn't all that difficult. Just had to migrate my Pokemon then capture the new mons in each region.

You can migrate but only if that's literally the only way (barring events, and preferably you should do those events). That's common sense. If the region offers a way to get the pokemon without migrating, that's how you should get it.
