Why didn't they just give Ash Mega-Charizard Y instead of shitty Trova?
He has a better Charizard than Alain and this was a perfect arc for it. Instead We get the great Jobbing Charizard Y and Ashs ridiculous Gary-Stu Greninja

Besides, Ash greninja not only makes his Kalos team still relevant but literally outclasses Zard design wise, concept wise and story wise.
It was also blatantly that Zard wasn't coming back since the writers have literally done NOTHING to hint at his return.
