So, do you think this is true?

No. Did you see how many preorders there were for SM when GO was at its peak?

I know all of the pre-owned 3DS systems were sold out at my local gamestops. Unless it's a coincidence, I assume GO is renewing interest in the handheld games. And I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that.
How can people possibly think GO will affect Nintendo's games? There is almost no overlap at all between handheld console gaming and mobile phone gaming. Mobile games are usually dirt cheap, if not free, and rely on in-app purchases. Nintendo sell you a FULL product with a FULL price tag.
Phones haven't put Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft out of business yet and they aren't about to. It's a totally different market with totally different concerns. Nintendo are just being intelligent enough to get their finger in the mobile pie and get MORE money.

Is Nintendo really making much from GO, though? They've had barely anything to do with it.
I though Go wasn't Nintendos responsibility but Gamefreak and Niantics?

I thought would affect sales, in the sense that people who haven't played for a few generations would pick up SM?

They own Pokémon in a three way split with GF and Creatures. They are getting something, even if it's just 25% of the profits.
