Black/White and Black2/White2 have the best stories. But you can' only play online in XY and the Hoenn reboots.

Black/White has the best story overall but only Gen 5 Pokemon for the mostpart.

Yeah Gen V is still pretty fun even without the online stuff, BW2 are in my opinion the best mainline games

Granted XY and ORAS aren't terrible just a little lackluster compared to some of the other games. If you want to choose between either XY or ORAS I guess it depends if you want to try a new region with new pokemon (and a lot of old ones) or an old region revisited with some new mechanics.

I like HGSS too since Johto is a nice region but I love BW2s pokemon distribution, postgame, and experience scaling more I think. They're both great entries in the series though
