Why isn't this a Bug-type? Is it a plant that disguises as a mantis like Sudowoodo is a rock that disguises as a rock and Hawicha is a humanoid creature that disguises as a hawk? If so, why doesn't its description only talks about it being beautiful and not about this?

The original animal is a bug pretending to be a flower, so the Poke version is the other way around.

So yes, its this generation's Sudowoodo.

I was just about to say this.

Many mantises disguise themselves as plants and flowers to hide from potential prey, one particular example being the orchid mantis which Lurantis clearly takes some inspiration from. Lurantis is the concept flipped on its head though, a plant that disguises itself as a mantis, perhaps to ward of feeding herbivores from trying to eat it by looking like anything other than a flower.

Maybe it's a disguise to hunt rock types.

Some orchids mimic female insects to lure in males that try to mate with the flower, pollinating it. So it's an orchid mimicking an orchid mantis (mimicking an orchid).

Yeah in botany I learned about one that mimic wasps.
