Did you even read the lore about ice Sandshrew and Sandslash? There used to be regular Sandshrew and Sandslash in Alola but because their habitat changed they had to move to a different, colder place and adapted to that environment. They're literally still Sandslash and Sandshrew.

I've just been calling them Snowshrew and Iceslash.

I don't feel as though there's any reason to complicate things.
Most pokemon names are based on dumb puns anyway.

The other pokemon I don't even feel as though they require new names for their variants since their original names are based on non-elemental qualities, I.E: Ninetails, Vulpix are named after their tails. Literally.

So.. yeah!
