I think the major reason the only variation mons shown are from gen1 is because GF expects to more people from Gen1 to consider buying these games, rather than in previous reveals
as such, there wouldn't be much point in going "Check out this cool new Galvantula! Unlike the regular ones, this one has developed to live underwater, and as such is a water/bug type"
It just wouldn't catch the attention of potentially returning fans

But since the pokes they showed are ones they would be familiar with, at least they'll know what they're in for
