ITT: Name one pro and one con for every gen. (Try to exclude opinions on which gen had the best or worst pokemon, otherwise this'll turn into a clusterfuck) I'll start:
Gen I
>Launched the franchise
>Sprites were shit (passable)
Gen II
>2 regions (bonus for comfiest region)
>Way ahead of its time
Gen III
>Perfect spritework
>Lost a lot of the features Gen II introduced
Gen IV
>Began to establish solid lore (for those who care about that shit)
>Shit for post game content
Gen V
>Best story
>Too linear
Gen VI
>3D
>Too easy

I feel like I can't really be too objective about it (got too bored and never finished BW) so I'm not going to comment

PRO: The inclusion of the "post game" continent was undoubtedly a plus. More training, mons and gyms was a great way to extend gameplay for those who wanted it.


CON: Man.. The fact that the game was so bloated on Gen 1 mons was almost insulting looking back on it. Sure you could get them Gen II's if you hunted them, but I feel it should be the reverse.

Sinnoh had an entire fucking postgame island with 3 cities, routes connecting them, and in platinum a whole battle frontier. And if you're talking HGSS, people usually praise that as THE game for postgame. What are you smoking? You could have just said it was slow.

-Gen II: Established the "Box Legend" pattern of making legendaries exclusive to versions (unlike routemons, legends are less tradeable, so it encourages double-buying, which has always been fucked up)

-Gen III: Hoenn
+Gen IV: Phys/Spec split and the general move towards making design decisions around metagame balance as much as flavor/lore
-Gen IV: So many legendaries it almost devalues them as a thing
+Gen V: Actual good story, Wonder Launcher (RIP)
-Gen V: Triple Battles
+Gen VI: Megas, Amie, Super Training
-Gen VI: The least interesting/easiest world yet, almost no new mons (I guess due to megas)
+Gen VII: Hyper Training, other QoL changes
-Gen VII: (probably) a shitload of G1 pandering due to the PoGo crowd/connectivity

+Customization. I enjoyed my time as a cute girl.
-The sections that involved riding a Pokemon were generally terrible.
