Lets appreciate the ones that do not get as much attention as they deserve
At least Piplup is still one of the most popular Pokémon and still gets merchandise.

I know /vp/ gives it a lot of shit, but I like its design. I just wish it had a more diverse movepool.

even without a huge movepool it's still one of the best starters, so it's not a big deal really
I'm surprised vp, two pokemon shown and both good choices.
This place might have some taste after all.

Love this guy.
>Shit typing
>Mediocre stats
>Bad stat spread
>Shallow movepool
I think this poor guy is unsalvageable by this point.
Genuinely good.

I remember one Mega thread that suggested a decent option to make it stronger. Carnivinite would turn it into a Grass/Dark type with lowered sp. attack and much higher physical attack and defenses. It talked about giving it a Grass-type Move that fit thematically with its fly-trap motif, in a Freeze Dry style of being super-effective against a move it's not usually, that was also super effective against Bug-types. Strong Jaw would be its ability, and its new move also was affected by it, giving it STAB Crunch and this new Fly Trap move that were strengthened by Strong Jaw.

You think with a mediocre speed it could use that move to take down a pokemon with 4x STAB against it?
This guy used to be right up there on the popularity scale with pikachu when the series was gaining traction

This is true, but I'm talking from the perspective of someone who doesn't really play much competitive battling. Contrary is a fantastic ability, but it's not easy to acquire if you're just casually playing the main game, so you have to rely on its small movepool and infrequent access to move tutors. Your moveset is pretty restricted to Slam, Leaf Blade, Coil, and Leech Seed alone.
This guy gets very little appreciation
One of my favorite water types ever
