Even outside the anime it appears in more spinoffs like Ranger over Persian. There's a secret rare pattern Meowth in the TCG as well, not even tied to anything in the anime.

What would possibly make persian anywhere near more popular?

It'd definitely be nice to make Meowth a little bit more relevant in the games, since it's already so prevalent in the anime.

I don't know, Amulet Coin boost, new item boost, Mega Persian or alt. evolution Meowth where he mostly keeps being himself but with a fancier/badass look and being its own thing alongside Persian, both with perks unique to each evolution and co-existing together, I dunno, anything would be nice, really. Seems like such a waste since he's almost as memorable as Pikachu.

It is nice that your mother in Sun/Moon just so happens to have a Meowth.
