I started with blue, but I got stuck after cerulean and never got to vermillion for whatever reason, that's the best I can remember

Pokemon Gold was the game I remember playing a lot more with Crystal right after to full completion up to Red

I played Ruby for a while but never finished it and started to not care

But then I returned with Gen 4, I started diamond, but I lost the cart and stopped caring until Platinum came to which I played fully into Battle frontier

Then I played Pokemon White, beat that, skipped out on B2W2 though

Then I played X, lost interest, skipped ORAS, then decided to finish X with Sun and Moon coming up and I did and I'm currently waiting for version exclusives to make my decision

1. 4 is my favorite though.

I recieved brand bew Gold when I was 10, the pokemon craze happened when I was like 7, but didnt have a gameboy, I just watched excited the anime, I liked it more than stuff like dragon ball.

When I got the game, I also remembre the anime being in this "all new" region and a whole new world to see.

I got a used red version shortly after, and also enjoyed it a lot, it felt like I was getting the original experience, I've always loved playing older games, like in the NES even though the SNES was out during my childhood. Not even once I felt red was a worst version, just older, and, by extension, more epic.

I'm 23 now, and browse /vp/ since I had heartgold, but was abscent during gen 6 since I kept myself busy actually playing it with my friends at Uni, and the. getting my 3ds broken, and just came back after the SM announcment, I feel like a newfag and an oldfag at the same time, since Ive been here like half a year, but also used to be here a long time ago.

Started with gen 1 played gen 2 and was late to gen 3 and was there for 4-6...good times with /vp/ when i got here its not that shitty

Casuals hated Gen 3 for a lot of reasons. It felt like a downgrade from Gen 2 because of the lack of day/night, lack of previous regions, etc.

These aren't reasons that mean much to /vp/ but it matters a lot to them.

1. It's really young
2. It's really into the metagame

As opposed to the broader pokemon fanbase that's in their 20s and doesn't pay attention to the metagame at all.

It's why the attempts to "correct" genwunners fall flat; they don't fucking care that there wasn't a physical/special split and they think you're a weirdo for caring. They also don't understand why people try to jerry-rig Pokemon into being a competitive game when you could just go play a game that was meant for that.

This is where things confuse me. I don't quite know why people started to turn the game into some super competitive, near shitflinging fest just to feel like they won something. Sure, I'll admit I'm not a very competitive person and I understand part of the game's draw is to literally become the best possible trainer, but how everyone gets super in-depth into EVs and IVs and movesets and all that is beyond me. At least to me, fighting competitively isn't fun; it's just anger inducing. There's a hell of a lot more to explore with the Pokemon, characters, settings, lore, etc. in pictures, stories, etc. than there ever will be with the metagame, especially because the metagame itself is extremely basic and while big enough to be pored over and exploited, it's nothing compared to a lot of other games simply due to not being designed to be strained. I mean, if they really thought things 100% all the way through, would they really have Shuckle of all Pokemon be the one to be able to deal the most damage with one move?

It was 4 years after red, what nostalgia are you talking about, it was about continuing the hype and the whole franchise.

They single handedly stopped that by delivering a sub par game that killed the buzz that didn't include day and night cycle, rematches, pokemon animations, older pokemon, ability to pass pokemon which made the two older games basically useless into the future, etc.

It really doesn't sounds like you played these games when they came out AT ALL.
