Pangoro is bear + bancho with a hint of Jotaro. They wanted to make it imposing, and not some fat wimp who doesn't know where a vagina is located like real-life pandas.

The others are bipeds, but Beartic is actually a quadruped that can stand on its hind legs, like real bears.

Why wasn't Beartic Ice/Water? It gets Swift Swim, and can learn Dive and Aqua Jet, and the STAB on Aqua Jet would have helped it a bit. It'd be better than being pure Ice.
