Poor Onix. I remember watching the anime before I got my hands on the games and thinking he was the coolest thing ever and how he'd totally be my ace.

even though Dragonite has a higher max CP than Vaporeon (3500 vs 2800) i think that the chart also takes into account attacks. Vaporeon's Water Gun has (with STAB) 25 DPS. Dragonite has either a 15 DPS (with STAB) Dragon Breath or an 11 DPS Steel Wing. Charge moves can be stronger for both but the basic attack is used more often and therefore more important.

You guys make WAAAYYYY too big of a fucking deal on the pokemon you have.

Yes, of course Snorlax and Vaporeon are the best, I'm not denying that. What I am saying, however, is that it doesn't fucking matter what pokemon you use. Use the mons that you like and think are cool.

This isn't competitive pokemon where there are actual consequences for winning or losing, so bringing the most cohesive team of 6 matters.

In pokemon go, it doesn't matter if you bring 6 2000CP Snorlax and stuff them in a gym, they will get taken down eventually. One by one, slowly, your gym will crumble within the hour. And it won't even be beaten by a team of 6 3000 CP Dragonites. No, it will be beaten by a team of shitmons that just happen to keep trying and trying and trying.

Ya, it may be slightly easier to win with certain mons, but I enjoy seeing a Vileplume at the top of a gym than a common Snorlax/Lapras. And at the end of the day, your gym is getting taken over within half an hour regardless of who you put in there (unless you live in buttfuck nowhere).

Your team of 6 will end up beating any gym if you try enough times.

So stop obsessing over moves and Snorlax. Go in there with a Dewgong and take that shit over. You'll end up being successful, and you'll be the gym leader for just as long as you would have been if you had placed a Vaporeon in there instead.

oddly enough, in simplifying the game, they managed to make it far less intuitive and new-player-friendly. I'm assuming they removed immunities, made resistances 0.8x instead of 0.5x and made super-effective 1.25x instead of 2x in order to make memorizing the type-effectiveness chart less necessary. and i get it--to a bunch of people who haven't played pokemon games in a long time (or ever), expecting them to know that poison is weak to psychic is a bit of a stretch. this is still true, but it matters less. simplification.

but by having different fully-evolved pokemon with WILDLY different CP caps and having different moves have WILDLY different DPS (which is actually not even shown in the game), they have actually made things MORE difficult. when the answer to the question "why did pokemon X beat me? we had the same CP?" is answered by "pokemon X has a move with a DPS of 20 but the move that your pokemon has only has a DPS of 11, so you were out-damaged, even though your CP values were the same" is somehow WAY more complicated and frustrating than "pokemon X beat you because bug is weak to flying. learn that and move on."

All gyms get taken down eventually, and they barely last that long in the first place. Go in with your team of shitmons, and slowly but surely, you'll beat that gym down and take it over.
