Well if BW2 is of any indication, wouldn't it be true they can update their teams? I mean Sabrina, Wallace, Wake or Misty could easily use a Bruxish on their team and Janine or Roxie could easily have a Gastro Acid user.

Yes they could update teams with new pokemon. That's why megas are being allowed. For instance Morty might be using a chandelure for coverage. Bugsy would get mega scizor etc. But nothing crazy like a genosect.

Steel takes neutral damage from Ghost now and Gengar can use Dazzling Gleam to deal with Dark types. Though I suppose it would still be useful against the likes of Scizor and Avalugg
