My guess is that it is indeed going to be a Magikarp or Pseudo, and its ability is an improvement on the concept of those creatures by actively supporting the ability to switch it out for exp instead of doing it manually.

Its body shape is similar to that of a trilobite or horseshoe crab, however the presence of segments lean toward more of an isopod-feel, which is also in the name. Speaking of isopods, it's behavioral description is very similar to that of a wharf roach. Oh and also copepods
